Following his retirement from the armed services, Alvin returned to Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

Preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, in 1991, and a son, Robin, in 1980, he is survived by a son, Eric; a daughter, Debbie Fox; his mother, Bertha Erven; three sisters, Elberta Steckman, Ruth Ann Brunetta, and Dianne Mumm; two brothers, Roy and Terry; and four grandchildren.

Alvin died at his home and is buried in Itasca Calvary Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot I-G-12-0-3)
