Arlie attended school in Des Moines, Iowa and in Liberty Township, Itasca County, Minnesota after moving there with his family to homestead.
Following the war, he worked winters in Des Moines, Iowa at packing houses and summers at the family homestead in Liberty Township establishing Six Lakes Cabins Camp, which he operated until his death. He was also active in tree farming.
He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and a thirty-year member of Foster-Bjorge Veterans of Foreign Wars 1764 of Bigfork, Minnesota.
Arlie was preceded in death by his wife Mildred in 1961; two brothers Glenn and Merle; and a sister Opal Andrus.
Arlie is survived by one son, Lee; four sisters, Matibel Weatherall, Leota Tripp, Dahlia Spivey, and Dorothy Vanderflugt; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Arlie died at Northern Itasca Health Care Center in Bigfork, Minnesota and is buried in Wirt Cemetery, Itasca County, Minnesota.
