In July of 1955, Arnold entered the United States Army and was discharged in July of 1958.

Arnold grew up in the Pequot Lakes and Longville areas.
On May 28, 1959, Arnold married Janette Mohawk at Longville, Minnesota and they settled in Hasty, Minnesota. They were divorced in 1976. On June 4, 1976, he married Janet Peterson.
He was a self-employed carpenter until the past year (1992) when he retired due to poor health.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; three sons, Sheldon, Jeff, and Michael; one daughter, Kin Sherman; two brothers, Duane and Alan; six sisters, Ethel Newman, Pearl Frank, Alma Hummel, Wanda Kline, Arlene Graville, and Ada Benscoter; and seven grandchildren.
Buried in Riverside Cemetery.
