Arnold was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army, serving from 1942 to 1945. He fought in campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He received a Purple Heart in 1944, a good conduct medal and Bronze Service Arrowhead. He was a squad leader.

Arnold married Sylvia (Wegge) Liston on June 11, 1955, in Holt, Minnesota. They lived their married life in Cohasset, Minnesota. He was a retired electrician, Local 294.
Arnold was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia, in 1991; parents; one sister, Mabel; and three brothers, Lester, Russell and Eugene.
He is survived by one stepson, Jim (Donna) Liston; three sisters, Margaret, Verna, and Gertrude; two sisters-in-law, Wanda and Delores; two step-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.
Arnold died at Grand Village in Grand Rapids, Minnesota where he had spent the last year. He is buried in Wildwood Cemetery at Cohasset, Minnesota. (First Addition)
