Bennett was a United States Army veteran of World War II, having served in Central Europe and Northern France.

Following his discharge from the service, Bennett was united in marriage to Pearl Brower on December 27, 1947, at Remer, Minnesota.
He worked as a mechanic for United States Steel in Marble, Minnesota for several years.
His hobbies included fishing, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Bennett is survived by a daughter, Linda (Dave) Rousse; three sons, Albert (Rebecca), John, and Rodney Frank; seven grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Preceding him in death were his wife Pearl in November of 1998; one daughter, Patsy Frank in 1994; and five brothers and one sister.
Bennett died at Woodland Homes in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in Itasca Calvary Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot C-D-04-1-7)
