Survivors are his wife, Evelyn; two sons, Raymond and Edwin; two daughters, Mrs. Laverne (Joanne) Van Quekelberg and Mrs. Roger (Joyce) Erickson; a brother, Morris; three sisters, Josephine, Winnie, and Mrs. Garland (Vera) Underwood; and nine grandchildren.
Bernal died at Itasca Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in Harris Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot 1.8.3.7)
