Bernard Kirkes was employed by the Holman mine as a truck driver after completing his military service.
Bernard died in Hibbing, Minnesota after suffering injuries in a light plane crash near Bovey. He is buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine, Minnesota (Serbian section - Block 54). He is survived by his parents; two brothers, Richard and Donald; and a sister, Ellen.
