Bernard married Vera Gibson on July 8, 1927 in Crookston, Minnesota.
After many moves, he returned to Grand Rapids in 1937 where he lived since. He worked for forty years for the Minnesota Highway Department as a civil engineer and surveyor. During the last nineteen years of his career, he served as resident engineer for the Grand Rapids, Minnesota area.
Bernard was a member of McVeigh-Dunn American Legion Post of Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1984 and is survived by one daughter, Joan Clafton; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He died at Leisure Hills Nursing Home in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in Itasca Calvary Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot C-B-48-2-2)
