Bernard Mattfield worked many years as a truck driver for Cleveland Cliffs Mining Co, He married Jacquelyn Cole in 1951 in Minnesota. He was a member of the American Legion Post #60, Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
Bernard died in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in Harris Cemetery, Harris Township, Itasca County, Minnesota. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jacquelyn; four daughters, Bunny (Jerry) Laird, Donna (Jim) Erickson, Patty (Greg) Lundquist, and Terry Lamora; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Mae Anderson and Eunice James; and two brothers, Howard and Ronald Mattfield.
