    Gene lived most of his life in Coleraine, Minnesota.

    He married Mary "Tote" Gareri on April 11, 1953, in Bovey, Minnesota.

    Gene was a postmaster for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Mary Immaculate Church in Coleraine, the Knights of Columbus, the Coleraine Fire Department for 26 years, the Greenway School Board for 12 years, the Blandin Male Chorus for five years, had served on the Eagle Ridge Management Board, Pony League Football coach, organizer of former Canisteo Credit Union in Coleraine, and was very active in the steel worker's union and also, he was the director of the Red Cross in Coleraine.

    He is survived by his wife, Mary "Tote"; daughters, Kathryn (David) LaFond, Barbara (Peter) Jones, and Theresa (David) Troumbly; a son, James (Betty); six grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret McPherson and Catherine Gould.

    Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Gerry in 1979; his brothers, James, Robert and Bill; and a sister, Mary Zeibol.

    Gene died at home in LaPrairie, Minnesota and is buried in Lakeview Cemetery at Coleraine, Minnesota. (Block 141)
