Boyd was a member of the American Legion Post of Deer River, Minnesota.

Boyd was married to Mae Effie Mortz in 1930 in North Dakota.

Boyd is survived by his wife, Mae; three sons, Royal, Ray, and Leland; two daughters, Mrs. Ray Risberg and Mrs. Charles Rodberg; ten grandchildren; one brother, George; five sisters, Mrs. Charles Lausche, Mrs. Hazel Shepard, Mrs. Clara Berg, Mrs. Lloyd Songstad, and Mrs. Mary Garthus.

Boyd died at Itasca Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in Lakeview Cemetery at Bena, Minnesota.
