Newspaper article: The Iron News, Coleraine, Minnesota - 1944 – Letter from Carl B. Davis, stationed in San Diego. “Dear Mrs. MacNeil: I want to thank you for the birthday dollar and card. I appreciated them very much. It is nice to know that some of the home town folks think of us once in a while. Also I want to thank you for sending me The Iron News. I really look forward to receiving it each week. I think the Serviceman’s Club is doing a swell job of keeping in touch with all the boys. I am stationed temporarily at the U.S. Naval Repair Base here in San Diego. I wish I could tell you something about my work but unfortunately it’s not for publication at the present time. I have been on draft for quite some time and expect to go to sea any day. I enjoyed the note on the back of the card relating an incident between Paul and my Dad – it brought back memories. California may be a land of sunshine, but so far it has been mostly fog. Give me good old Minnesota any time. I hope that day is not too far away when we can all get back home. Keep up the good job on the home front – it helps a lot! Sincerely, Carl B. Davis.”
