Carl Mortenson married Rosalie Zozgornik in 1951 in Kelly Lake, Minnesota. They moved to Washington where he worked as a carpenter for SP&S Railroad. They returned to the Hibbing, Minnesota area and he worked as a carpenter. The couple moved to Nashwauk, Minnesota in the mid 1990s. He was a member of the Hibbing D.A.V.
Carl died at Fairview University Medical Center-Mesabi in Hibbing, Minnesota and is buried in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hibbing, Minnesota (Block 5, Lot 303, Grave 6 W 1/2). He is survived by his wife, Rosalie; one daughter, Brenda (Craig) Koeper; two sons, Russell (Peggy) Mortenson, and John (Rachel) Mortenson; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carrie Sweep and Alice (Harold) Streeter; and one brother, Vern (Arlene) Mortenson. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles, in 1977; three sisters; Eva, Margaret, and Helen; and two brothers, Ray and Jesse.
