    Carold was a Navy veteran of World War II with the Seabees in both the European and South Pacific Theaters.

    Carold moved to Keewatin, Minnesota in 1941 and married Philomena Comparoni in 1943.

    His career included working for Rhude and Fryberger for 16 years and Eveleth Taconite for 19 years. While at Eveleth Taconite, he worked as a balling drum operator and warehouseman. He retired in 1984.

    Carold was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Keewatin, Minnesota, the Keewatin American Legion Post 452, a past commander of the Keewatin VFW Post 5516, a member of the Keewatin Senior Citizens, and the Men's Club.

    He was a devoted father and husband who enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting.

    Carold is survived by his wife, Philomena "Minnie"; three sons, James (Mary), David, and Carold Jr. (Linda Suihkonen); three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

    Carold died in the University Medical Center-Mesabi in Hibbing, Minnesota and is buried in Maple Hill Cemetery at Hibbing, Minnesota.
