    Charles was raised in Ball Club, Minnesota.

    In 1973, he went to work for Erie Mining Company for six years.

    In 1979, Charles moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where he attended the University of Minnesota and Minneapolis Drafting School. He returned to Cass Lake, Minnesota for several years and later moved to Pine River, Minnesota.

    Charles was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Deborah Fairbanks; an uncle, Benjamin Drumbeater; a nephew, Duane Fairbanks; and his grandmother, Anna Drumbeater.

    He is survived by his son, Charles E. Fairbanks III; daughters, Amy and Penny Fairbanks; one granddaughter; sisters, Annette Vaughan, Carol Fairbanks, Judith Fairbanks, and Geraldine Hughs; a brother, Jerry Kingbird; and several nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.

    Charles died in Backus, Minnesota and is buried in St. Josephs Cemetery at Ball Club, Minnesota.
