Charley Lawson grew up in Grand Rapids & Rockford, Michigan. He had lived in Muskegon, Michigan and Joliet, Illinois and had been a resident of Kalamazoo, Michigan since 2001. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post of Joliet, Illinois.
Charley died in Kalamazoo, Michigan and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Lake Jessie Township, Itasca County, Minnesota. He is survived by his siblings, Kelsey Larson, Peggy (Ross) Murray, Peter (Judy) Lawson, Candy (Brian) Finlay, and Tracey Lawson; step-mother, Joanna Lawson; and several nieces and nephews.
