    Charles grew up in the Inger/Ball Club, Minnesota area.

    Following discharge, Charles returned to Ball Club, Minnesota and worked for a time as a logger. He then worked thirty years in the iron mines, retiring in 1980.

    He is survived by his wife, Darlene; four daughters, Annette Vaughan, Judith Fairbanks, Carol Fairbanks, and Geraldine Fairbanks-Hughs; two sons, Charles Fairbanks, Jr. and Jerry "Junior" Kingbird; three stepdaughters, Sherry Schaaf, Rhonda Schaaf, and Brenda Schaaf; a stepson, Randy Schaaf; a sister, Betty Jane Kusteoski; six brothers, Donald White, Bobby White, Benjamin Fairbanks, Jr., Myron "Butch" Fairbanks, Robert Fairbanks, and David Fairbanks; nineteen grandchildren; fifteen step-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.

    Preceding him in death were two sisters, Marlene and Shirley Fairbanks; and a brother, Jerry White.

    Charles died at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota and is buried in Olivet Cemetery at Deer River, Minnesota.
