Charles spent three years in the Pacific as Staff Sergeant in the 532nd Engineer Boat and Shore regiment, from 1943-1946.

Charles married Lois Knusson in 1943 at Fort Ord.
He worked 30 years in Lithography in Los Angeles, California, and was the fourth president of the Los Angeles Litho Club.
He retired in the Tri Palm Estates in 1985 and was active in the men's golf club as treasurer and president for 7 years.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; a brother, Roger; five nieces and six nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Roy and Eddie; and sister Evelyn.
