Itasca Iron News April 6, 1944 Soldiers letter from Claude Eggebraaten, marine at San Diego comes: “Just finished reading the Iron News which brought me back home again. The marine corps is a swell place to be. I think so anyway. The last two weeks we’ve worked pretty hard on rifle range. I started firing the M-1 today. Boy that’s sure is a sweet rifle and the range will be fun. My relay fired this morning and pulled butts this after noon. Sure was sorry to hear about Jimmy Hodgins. Just doesn’t seen like he wont be there to give me and the fellows advice our on the baseball diamond. Guess that’s where I remember him most”
