Clifford entered the Armed Services of the United States Army in August, 1942 and served 16 months, being honorably discharged December, 1943.
He served in the 952nd Signal Radio Intelligence Company of the Aviation Division.

Clifford came to Effie, Minnesota with his parents at the age of nine years and has made that his home until his death.
Clifford was preceded in death by his mother in 1918 and his father in 1936.
Clifford is survived by one brother, Peter, with whom he has made his home; one sister, Mrs. Sadie Mattson; one niece, three nephews; and one uncle, Jacob Schmalenberger.
Clifford passed away at his home in Effie and is buried in the Bigfork Cemetery at Bigfork, Minnesota. (Original, Block 32).
