Daniel moved to Grouse Creek in Bowstring, Minnesota.
He was a logger and also worked for the Ford Motor Company in Deer River, Minnesota and the mines on the Iron Range.
Daniel married Donna Tuttle and moved to Colorado in the early 1960s where he worked as a diesel mechanic and maintenance man until his retirement.
Preceded in death by his wife, Donna and his parents, he is survived by four sons, Clayton, James, Sr, Robert, and David; one daughter, Donna Martin; one brother, Daren; two sisters, Wanda Mason and Myrtle; fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Daniel died at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. Funeral services were held at the Inger Community Center and Grand Medicine Man Steven Jackson officiated. He is buried in Tuttle Cemetery in Deer River, Minnesota.
