    Daniel joined the United States Army on May 22, 1943. He served in Rhineland and Central Europe as a Cannoneer 844 for the Battery B, 881st Field Artillery Battalion, 69 Infantry Division and was honorably discharged as a Technician 5th Grade on April 20, 1946.

    Daniel graduated valedictorian from Deer River High School, Deer River, Minnesota in 1942.

    He was Quarter Master of the Perry-Heide Post No. 9703 in Talmoon, Minnesota. For 40 years he participated in the Memorial Day Military Squad.

    Daniel retired from logging in 2005 at the age of 81. He was north fire warden and taught firearm safety. Daniel was president of the Cedar Lake Horseshoes and vice-president of the Minnesota North Central Horseshoe Association. He was a member of the bowling league in Deer River, Minnesota and sponsored his own women's team.

    Daniel is survived by his son, Michael (Shanon); two grandsons; a brother, Ted (Vivian); sisters, Shirley Shears and Virginia (Vern) Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Daniel died in Grand Rapids and is buried in Sand Lake Cemetery in Itasca County, Minnesota. No photo of grave marker available at this time.
