David lived in St. Paul, Minnesota and then in Grand Rapids, Minnesota where he was employed at Itasca Community College for more than twenty years.
He moved back to Aberdeen, South Dakota in July, 2000.
David is survived by two daughters, Brenda Haynes and Deann Martens; his parents; special friend, Suzie Q.; three brothers, Richard, Ronald, and his twin brother Duane; two sisters, Jeannette Kreitel and Dorothy Curry; and two grandchildren.
David died at his home and is buried in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
