David entered the military service in 1970. He saw action in the Vietnam Conflict and was discharged from the Navy in 1972.

David was killed in a highway accident southwest of Grand Rapids, Minnesota on July 29, 1972. He had just been home a short time before the accident happened.
Surviving relatives include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Denzel; three sisters, Mrs. David Houghton, Mrs. Nancy Wait, and Kathy Denzel; and seven brothers, Charles, Gary, Richard, Randy, Dean, Brian, and Mark.
