David married Ethel M. Haugland on May 1, 1948, in International Falls, Minnesota. They moved to Bovey, Minnesota in 1948 and to Grand Rapids, Minnesota in 1951.
He worked as a bulk fuel oil dealer for Cities Service in Grand Rapids and later as a custodian with School District #318 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He retired in 1977 following an industrial accident.
He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Independent Order of Foresters, Teamsters Union, Sons of Norway, a charter member and founder of Wendigo Community Club and the first life member of Minnesota Deer Hunters Chapter in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He was past master of Itasca Lodge 208, where he received the Hirma Award, past high priest of Pokegama Chapter 102 Royal Arch Mason, past patron of Jephthah Chapter 176 Order of Eastern Star, and past associate guardian of Bethel 12 Jobs Daughters, all of Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He was a member of Aad Temple Shrine of Duluth and North Star Shrine Club of Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Lydia (Hanson) Allen; daughter Gerri Allen; sister Billie Jean Sampson; and brother Jack Allen. He is survived by his wife, Ethel; daughters Patricia Hagen, Marie Tix, Jeanne Rister, and Jacki Allen; sister Norma Storrs; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
