    Del served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years where he served on the USS Coral Sea (CVA-43) in the Gulf of Tonkin.

    Del Luoma married Leonie "Lee" Peters in 1965 in Vancouver, Canada. Following his discharge from the Navy, Del worked at the Blandin Paper Co. and then he and Lee moved to Australia where they lived for 9 years. In 1976, they returned to Grand Rapids and he worked in construction. In 1980 he started working at Thistledew Camp in Togo, Minnesota as a juvenile corrections officer and retired from there in 1996. After retirement, Del continued working with kids at Trombley's Group Home. His wife Lee died in 2010 and in March 2012 Del married Laura Washburn in LaPrairie, Minnesota. He was a member of the Solid Rock Church of God, was a "Darned Good Fisherman" and an avid hunter. He also was active in Boy Scouts, loved picking blueberries, and woodworking.

    Del died in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He is survived by his wife, Laura; four children, Paul (Heather) Luoma, Bryan (Donna) Luoma, Stacie Luoma and Davin Luoma; his brother, Russell Luoma; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
