Del Matteson married Lila Ruotsala in 1946 in Minnesota. His first business was Petrich’s Store which he purchased in 1950. He opened L&M Supply store in Grand Rapids with Jim Luthen in 1959, retiring in the 1980s. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home and wintering in Arizona. He was a member of Masonic Itasca Lodge No. 208, Royal Arch Mason of Pokegama Chapter 102, Eveleth Commandry, Shrine AAD Temple, Royal Order of Jesters, North Star Shrine Cycle Patrol, and founder of the North Star Shrine Mustang Patrol.
Del died in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine, Minnesota (Block 139). He is survived by his daughters, Darcy (Jack) Perreault, Doreen (Michele Rinne) Matteson, and Denise (Mike) Burich; his son, Terry (Margaret) Matteson; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and his sister-in-law Eleanor (Bud) Grozdanich. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lila, in 2007 and his sister, Viola Mehelich, in 2003.
