Delbert served in the United States Army, 225th Division in Europe during World War II.

The family moved to Crosby, Minnesota in 1920, and then to Grand Rapids, Minnesota in 1922.
On September 4, 1937, Delbert married Katherine B. Mayerle in Nashwauk, Minnesota.
Following his honorable discharge in 1945, Delbert returned to Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He worked most of his life for the M.A. Hanna Mining Company in Hibbing, Minnesota, and retired in 1974.
He enjoyed his retirement at his lake home on Pokegama Lake while boating, fishing, hunting, gardening, wildlife watching and woodcrafting in his shop. Delbert also enjoyed traveling and camping.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Loyal Order of Moose, both in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Katherine in 1982; three sisters, Esther Rowe, Evelyn Long and Florence Brown; and a brother, Wilbur.
Delbert is survived by nieces and nephews; his special friend, Ann Kucerra; a sister-in-law, Julia Stowe; and a brother-in-law, Leonard (Antionette) Mayerle.
