Babe joined the United States Navy in 1949 and was discharged in 1953.

Babe was a lifelong resident of Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
He worked for Northwestern Bell Company from 1954 until his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of McVeigh-Dunn American Legion Post 60 and Ponti-Peterson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1720, and Telephone Pioneers, all of Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
Babe was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Edith; sons Todd, Randy, and Corey; daughters Vicki Galarneault and Lori Shields; brothers Ralph, Wallace, and John; sisters Agnes Bouvette, Shirley Albertson, and Evelyn Mackie; seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Babe died in his home and is buried in Itasca Calvary Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot I-C-31-2-1)
