Don spent more of his childhood in New Mexico and western Texas. He came to Grand Rapids, Minnesota in 1968.

Don worked as a foreman for Casper Construction Company for eleven years until his retirement due to a disability.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Carol Patten Erven; son, Shiloh; daughter, Callie; his parents; sisters Mary Porterfield and Lois Jones; and his maternal grandmother, Audrey Huffer.

Don died in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in Itasca Calvary Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot I-B-48-1-4)
