PFC Donald Lehto died on October 1, 1950 from other causes near Taejon, South Korea, although some reports list him as Killed in Action.
He was a student at Virginia Junior College when he enlisted in the Army in December 1949. That was six months after his graduation from Greenway High School, Coleraine, Minnesota, where he was salutatorian of his class. He had been a former carrier for the Minneapolis Star in his home town of Marble, Minnesota and in 1948 he was one of the three top winners of the Minneapolis Star World Affairs quiz.
Don is survived by his parents; a sister, Shirley McAlpine; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Korte. He is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Virginia, Minnesota. - Wars Involved:
