Itasca County Sheriff Pat Medure said the sheriff's department received a call that the human remains of an individual had been found just outside Trout Lake Township just off of County Road 445, north of Feeley.
Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the scene to process information. The deceased is identified as Donald Eugene Erickson, 41, of Grand Rapids. He was reported missing by his mother on March 27, 1996.

Duluth News Tribune article dated August, 1996:
"Itasca County"
"Body of Grand Rapids man found"
"Five months after a rural Grand Rapids man was reported missing, his remains have been found in a wooded area near Trout Lake Township.
No foul play is suspected in the death of Donald Eugene Erickson, 41, according to the Itasca County Sheriff's Office. The cause likely is natural but may remain a mystery because of the deteriorated condition of the remains, which were found Wednesday.
"I don't know that we'll ever know, said Itasca County Undersheriff Pat Medure."
Erickson, an ex-Marine who did independent carpenter and masonry work, was reported missing March 27 by his mother. A county worker found his remains about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in woods near Itasca County Road 445 about 10 miles southeast of Grand Rapids. Erickson had been wearing winter clothes."
