    Information from Grand Rapids Herald Review article dated August 23, 1944:

    "Grand Rapids Man Dies from Wounds in Battle

    Pfc. Donald L. Finney, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Finney of Grand Rapids, died of wounds received in action. That was the terse message received by Mr. and Mrs. Finney last Wednesday evening. No further particulars have come through from the War Department.

    Enlisting in the United States Marines on August 20, 1943, PFC Finney sailed to the Pacific War Theater in December. He was in active duty against the Japanese for several months. Just where his unit was engaged when he was wounded is not known by the family."


    Donald served with Company C, 4th Amphibious Tractor Battalion, 3rd Disarmament and Arms Control in the Marianas Islands.
