After his discharge from the military, Donald attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth in Duluth, Minnesota and earned a degree in business.
He married Thelma Correll on August 24, 1961.
Donald was a teacher in Michigan before returning to Minnesota in 1973. He was employed at Thistledew Youth Camp as a teacher/counselor.
Donald loved music, reading, and going to the public library.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma; a sister, Betty Grams; two nephews; and one great-nephew.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James; and one nephew, Michael Grams.
Donald died at his home and a private family memorial service was held. He was cremated.
