Donald was a retired music instructor having taught at the state universities of New York, New Mexico, Florida and most recently serving ten years in Marshall, Minnesota at Southwest State University.

He was a member of the Itasca Orchestral Society in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Maggie; stepson Mitch Teberg; daughters Kathryn and Jennifer; sister Beverly Sjaarda; and his stepmother, Mabel Fouse.

Donald died in Northern Itasca Health Care Center in Bigfork, Minnesota. No funeral services were held.
