Whitey grew up in Bovey, Minnesota and attended Greenway schools.
Following his discharge from service, Whitey worked for Federal Cartridge Corporation in Anoka, Minnesota.
He moved to Grand Rapids, Minnesota in 1974 and returned to Bovey in 1979.
Duane was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Grand Rapids and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Bovey.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marcella Knudson, in 1978; a niece, Lori Bertram; and a nephew, Steven "Petey" Bertram.
Duane is survived by four sisters,
Nancy Myers, Judi Flitter, Darlene Childs, and Susan Stevens; his step-father, Melville Knudson; thirteen nieces, seventeen great-nieces; and one great-great-niece.
Duane died at the Itasca Medical Center in Grand Rapids and is buried in Lakeview Cemetery at Coleraine, Minnesota. (Block 30, Row 8)
