Edward served in the United States Army in the European Theatre and saw action during the Battle of the Bulge.

Edward was married to Ruth E. Carlson on August 10, 1946 in Virginia, Minnesota.
They lived in Floodwood, Minnesota until moving to the Grand Rapids, Minnesota area in 1960.
Edward worked at Floodwood Co-Op Creamery for several years and then worked as a transport driver for Itasca Oil Company in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, retiring in 1975.
He was a member of the VFW in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Ed had a great respect for wildlife and enjoyed feeding wild birds and other wildlife. He enjoyed gardening.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Hilda Ylitalo and Lempi Loberg; and brothers Sulo Ylitalo and William Ylitalo, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; daughters Sharon (Kevin) Kent and Gloria Dibley; sons, James (Carol) Ylitalo and Tom (Bobbie) Ylitalo; a sister, Aune (Carl) Lind; and seven grandchildren.
Edward died in Manor House in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in Forest Hill Cemetery at Floodwood, Minnesota.
