In 1925, Elmer married Dora Lyons, who preceded him in death.
On September 2, 1955, Elmer married Helen S. Anthony at Martinsville in Morgan County in Indiana.
Elmer is survived by two sons, Dale and Wallace, five grandchildren; two brothers, Wilfred and Sidney; and two sisters, Mrs. Jack Hamling and Mrs. William Eck.
Elmer was a conductor for the D.M&I.R. (Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway). He was a member of the Catholic Church.
Elmer died at the University Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota after a lingering illness. He is buried in Lakeview Cemetery at Coleraine, Minnesota.
