Elvin was a member of the Blackhawk Division with the United States Army in France in World War I.
He served with Company F, 311th Engineers

Elvin was married to Hulda May Asp on November 26, 1922 and moved to Grand Rapids, Minnesota in 1923.
He was employed by the Blandin Paper Company as a power plant engineer for thirty-seven years before his retirement two years ago.
Elvin was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Reed Memorial Methodist Church, and the Blandin Quarter Century Club, all of Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
Survivors are his wife, Hulda; two sons, Elwood and Lee; two daughters, Mrs. Marcus Maynard and Mrs. John Anwiler, Jr.; eight grandchildren; four brothers; and five sisters.
Elvin died of a heart attack while fishing at Red Lake. He is buried in Itasca Calvary Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot I-E-05-1-7)
