    Don enlisted in the United States Navy in 1955 in the Ninth Naval District. He was honorably discharged in 1959.

    Don grew up and lived in the Goodland, Minnesota area.

    He was united in marriage to Bonnie Atchison in 1960, and raised his family in Goodland.

    Don was a member of Local 49 and worked pipeline construction as an operating engineer throughout the United States, including the Alaskan pipeline, and worked on many local projects as an operator.

    In 1977, while working at Irene's Truck Stop in Swan River, Minnesota, he sustained a serious injury that left him permanently disabled.

    Don spent his time playing cards and wheeling around harassing the staff at Grand Village and keeping them on their toes.

    Don is survived by a son, Don (Wendy) Fischer; a daughter, Trish (Jeff) Barry; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two great-granddaughters.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Harley; brothers, Ron and Lonnie; and a sister, Connie Peterson.

    Don passed away at Grand Village in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery at Goodland, Minnesota.
