    For many years Gene worked on the Iron Range in the underground and open pit mines. He then operated a carpet laying business in Newcastle, Wyoming for many years.

    Several years ago, Gene returned to Grand Rapids. He was life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

    He is survived by his five children, Gregg, Ron, Debb Cook, Marla Vance, and Connie Gardner; his four sisters, Vivian Kenjalo, Delores Bertram, Gerry Kenjalo, and Genie Jackson; one brother, Robert Winkleblack; and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Gene died at home and is buried in Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota. (Section J, Site 566).
