  • Military Highlights:
    Frank was a United States Army veteran of World War II. Following basic training, he was stationed on Leyte in the Philippines and then soon after was part of the second wave of troops onto Okinawa. He was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery in the battle of Kakazu Ridge. He was discharged at the end of the war with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

    After the service, Frank returned home and married Mary Gruden on May 11, 1946, in Hibbing, Minnesota and worked as a maintenance mechanic for Pickands Mather Mining Company and later the National Steel Pellet Company.

    He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the VFW Post 5516 of Keewatin, the American Legion Post 452 of Keewatin, and the Keewatin Senior Citizen's Club in Keewatin, Minnesota.

    He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Bovitz, and his parents.

    Frank is survived by his wife, Mary; two brothers, Mike (Norma) and Louis (Kay); and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Frank died in the University Medical Center-Mesabi in Hibbing, Minnesota and is buried in Maple Hill Cemetery at Hibbing, Minnesota.
