Frank Metzer married Doris LaDoux in Grand Rapids, Minnesota in 1952. He had been a heavy equipment operator in the Hill Annex Mine for J & L Steel and for LTV Steel. He was a member of St. Kevin's Catholic Church of Pengilly, the Taconite American Legion Post, and a former member of the Bovey Moose Lodge 1061.
Frank died in Brainerd, Minnesota and is buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine, Minnesota (Block 65). He is survived by his wife, Doris; children, Robert (Georgiann) Metzer, Tony (Michelle) Metzer, Julie (Kurt) Fondrick, Mitzi (Andrew) Gregg, and Mariann (Bert) Palomares; fourteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Earl (Deloris) Metzer; and sisters, Violet Studer, Jewell Metzer, Darlene Farrell, JoAnn Metzer , and Margie Tillotson. Preceding him in death were an infant daughter, Patricia Ann Metzer; his parents; a brother, Richard Metzer,; and a sister, June Metzer.
