He was accompanied home by his wife who is employed in Washington, D.C. where Fred was stationed for some time while he was in training. He had not had a leave for about 18 months.

Fred Comstock married Linnea Selander in 1941 in Superior, Wisconsin. After graduation from the Northwestern College of Chiropractic, the couple moved to Deer Lodge, Montana in 1950 and then to Anaconda, Montana in 1953 where he practiced chiropractic care. They moved to Fargo, North Dakota in 1966 and opened the Comstock Chiropractic Clinic. Fred retired in 1980 and Linnea died in 1980. Dr. Comstock was past president of the North Dakota State Chiropractic Association and Sons of Norway. He was State Recorder of the Shrine and a member of the Shrine Oriental Band. He was a past member of the Elks, Kiwanis, and American Legion.
Fred died in North Dakota and is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, North Dakota (plot - Northpark, Sec. , Lot 62). He is survived by two daughters, Carol (Joel) Niess, Doctors of Chiropractic who have taken over the Comstock Clinic, and Joann (John) Holm; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and two sisters, Velma Brooke and Nellie Berg.
