Fred worked in the Pennsylvania coal mines.

He moved to Detroit, Michigan and worked in the auto indsutry. There he met and married Hanna Lorenz.

They retired to the Grand Rapids, Minnesota area.

Following Hanna's death, Fred married Lillian Melrose. Lillian died in 1999.

Fred is survived by a nephew, Sylvester Kulbatsky; a niece Barb McIlwain; stepchildren, Katherine Toivola, Cindy Melrose, and Charles Melrose; many other close Zelman, Lorenz, and Melrose relatives; and a host of friends.

Fred died at his home after a struggle with cancer. In accordance with his wishes, he was buried by Hanna in the Lakeview Cemetery at Coleraine, Minnesota. (Block 140, Lot 16)
