Gary enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1965 and served in Vietnam.

Following his discharge, he returned to Grand Rapids, Minnesota and owned and operated the Pink Lady Beauty Salon in Grand Rapids and the Village Inn Night Club in LaPrairie.
He then resided in Costa Mesa, California for seven years, returning to Grand Rapids in 1981.
He most recently operated Gooch's Beautification in Grand Rapids.
Gary was a well-known artist and poet. He specialized in primitive drawings and received several awards for his poetry.
He married Michele Duell on December 31, 1988 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
Gary was a member of United Methodist Church in Grand Rapids.
Preceded in death by his father, Roger in 1985, he is survived by his wife, Michele; his mother, Clarice; son Abraham; daughter Britta; step-son , Michael; step-daughters Gina and Misty; brothers, Bryan, Stephen, and Arthur; sisters, Kathrene Demarais and Myrna Laudenbach; and one step-grandson.
Gary died at Itasca Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids and is buried in Wildwood Cemetery at Cohasset, Minnesota. (p46w24)
