George served in the Army During World War II with the 5th Infantry Division, 3rd Army in the European Theater of Operations.

George moved to Grand Rapids, Minnesota in 1958 after living in Roseau, Minnesota and St. Cloud, Minnesota.
George was employed by Itasca County Social Services, retiring in 1984.
George maintained an extended participation in the programs of the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the Itasca County Service Unit Committee of the Salvation Army and had served with a number of other volunteer and community service organizations. He was a member of Itasca Council 2840 Knights of Columbus and had served as grand knight. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, McVeigh-Dunn Post 60 American Legion, Ponti-Peterson Post 1720 VFW and Itasca County Chapter of Disabled Veterans, Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
His wife, Verna Jayne "Sally" died December 23, 1996.
Survivors include sons Antonio, Joseph, and John; a daughter Margaret Oquist; a brother, Robert; four sisters, Theresa Hughes, Jennie Galli, Mafalda Baughman, and Genevieve Kushman; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
