Gerald was a Grand Rapids, Minnesota resident since 1949. He married Carrie Johnson in 1941 at Northome, Minnesota. Gerald was employed at Blandin Paper Company for 27 years as a groundskeeper and he retired in 1971.
Subsequent to the death of his first wife in 1973, Gerald married Molly Hruby in 1977.
He was a life member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1720 and the Pokegama Chapter 102 of Royal Arch Masons, as well as Jephthah Chapter 176 of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Itasca Lodge A.F. and A.M. His senior activities included membership in the American Association of Retired Persons and the Friends of the Bruce Bauer Senior Center at the Itasca County YMCA. Gerald was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
Survivors are his wife, Molly; sisters, Mary Shaw, Ada Kettler, and Betty Bogie; brothers, Robert, King, and George; a stepson, James Linneberg; stepdaughters, Betty Rahrlien, Beverly Heck, and Mary McCullough; twelve step-grandchildren, and nineteen step-great grandchildren.
