Gordon was raised in Long Prairie, Minnesota by his grandparents, Max and Anna Zimmel.

He worked in North Dakota and then served in the United States Army.

Gordon married Claire Elizabeth Peters and they raised four children.

He owned and operated a dairy farm in Browerville Minnesota and was also employed with Long Prairie Ready Mix.

Gordon moved to Grand Rapids, Minnesota in 2011 to be closer to his family. He loved animals, being on the farm, and spending time with his family.

Preceding him in death are his wife, Claire and a son, Gordon M. Zimmel.

Gordon is survived by his three daughters, Michele (Jeffrey) Schiffman, Terri (Tom) Lorentz, and Gerri (Wayne) Bruns; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Gordon passed away at Sunset Acres in Cohasset, Minnesota and is buried in Itasca-Calvary Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot C-D-24-22)
