Jean worked for the American Red Cross in Texas, and later in the United States Occupied Zone of Berlin, Germany.

Jean married Joe Denzel in 1952 and began her career in Personnel at Blandin Paper Company.
After retiring in 1984, Jean spent several years volunteering at the Second Harvest Food Bank. She also volunteered at the Grand Rapids Historical Society and the Judy Garland museum.
Jean enjoyed golf, travel, talking politics, and attending her grandchildren's sporting events. She is a life long member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Denzel in 1988, her sister, June O'Clock, her granddaughter, Sara Hockinson, and her dear friend and cousin, Katie Frey.
Jean is survived by a daughter, Betty Jo (Dan) Hockinson; a son, Michael (Kathy) Denzel; and a sister, Jackie (Bob) Kirchoff. Jean is also survived by five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jean died at Garden Court Chateau in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and is buried in Itasca Calvary Cemetery at Grand Rapids, Minnesota. (Plot I-G-09-21)
